The Board of Commissioners is the legislative body of the county, also known as the county executive. The commissioners are responsible for the administration of all county business. Their duties include supervising the construction and maintenance of all county roads and bridges, controlling, maintaining, and supervising all county property, authorizing the payment of all county claims, establishing personnel policies, authorizing contracts, and appointing members to various boards. The commissioners also create and enforce ordinances for the county.
The terms of office of County Commissioners are four years on a staggered basis, and they can serve an unlimited number of terms. In Perry County, a prospective Commissioner must reside in a certain district but is elected by a majority vote of the county.
Meetings of the Perry County Board of Commissioners are normally held on the first Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. and the third Tuesday of each month at 8:00 a.m. Central time in the Meeting Room at the Courthouse.
